An Introduction

Today is my first blog for The Joffrey Ballet. Some of you may already know me through my first season here at Joffrey, and others will hopefully get to know me through this blog.

I am very excited about this new form of creativity and looking forward to what is to come. This first post is just to introduce myself and what my personal goals are for this social outlet. As dancers we are often accustomed to doing interviews for newspapers, magazine's, information studies for athletes, and well... blogs. Being a professional dancer for 13 years myself, I am always fascinated by what motivates the questions being asked and always enjoy the questions that aren't necessarily the ones you would expect. And this is one of my goals for the blog here. It is sometimes interesting to see what comes from a dancer interviewing another dancer. Since we share similar experience's and often times the stage together, what happens is more of conversation or walk down memory lane. Which I sometimes find supports interesting information and insight as to what's happening backstage and in company life. As an artist, I am always entertained by other artists passion's outside of the theater, favorite stage memories, personal stories of working with choreographers, and funny stage and rehearsal bloopers!

Since we, the dancers, are currently enjoying our summer break from last season's exciting performances and repertoire, the first of these blog's will most likely be about just that, what we've been up to on our down time. Traveling, working on outside projects, or basking in the sun and resting up for the season ahead. I know we're all very excited to start back and get ready for our season at home in Chicago, while preparing for a busy touring schedule. I hope this post has been informative as to what's to come, and I look forward to shaking things up with interviews from the dancers. So be sure to check back soon and learn more from what's happening inside Joffrey Tower!!

Best,
Rory Hohenstein
